First Grade Updates
See what's happening in First Grade this Month
Math: The final math unit is on measurement. This unit covers telling time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks. This unit also covers measuring and comparing the length, volume, and weight of objects using various nonstandard units.
Social Studies: Throughout the school year, students have been studying about influential historical figures and their contributions. First graders also discussed how they can make contributions to their family, friends, and community. In June, we will look at one more historical figure from Virginia and his contribution.
Science: Throughout the year, students have observed, discussed and recorded their observations of seasonal changes. This month, students will focus on the season of summer.
Reading: Students will continue to have fun participating in Reader’s Theater and will practice using their voices to reflect meaning and emotion through pause, stress, and phrasing.
Writing: Students will think about the different ways they might share their ideas to persuade others and practice persuasive writing.
As the school year comes to an end, we hope you all have a wonderful summer!
